Bible Talk: Biblical Commentary on Weekly Verses

Trials

Saying thanks and appreciating possible results is probably the furthest thing from your mind when you're going through challenges in your life. It doesn't matter the size of the problem, we rarely ever consider ourselves lucky and become filled with joy by this obstacle. Well, that's what this verse is telling us to do, to be joyful when we are tested which sounds ridiculous but actually makes all the sense in the world. We wouldn't be who we are or have developed certain qualities without certain experiences, so we know that these trials are a part of molding us. But it's hard to understand at the moment. It's even harder when as soon as you decide you are going to become better at something, you get tested in that very specific area at an insanely higher targeted rate. For instance, you may notice you have an issue with patience, you get easily irritated, and you know this is something you have to work on. The moment you decide, You are really going to focus on being more patient with others, that's exactly when everyone around you is at their most annoying and you seem to be at your most fragile. Well, that's partly because, we don't just receive certain traits we build them, we learn them, and we can't learn to have patience without being in the circumstances where patience is required. In our faith we require perseverance, and God asks us to always believe in Him no matter the circumstance, to trust in Him. So we may be tried and tested but we must stay strong in our faith and from this trial, perseverance shall be produced.

God wants us to be complete in who we are in Him. He wants us to build character and to have perseverance, love, and strength. The path you walk may not be easy but it is a form of preparation, molding you to become a mature and complete person. Molding you to be sure of your identity and unmoved in your faith. Small things may come to teach you to have the tools you need when bigger obstacles arise. So when you are being tested, when you are being faced with dozens of challenges, instead of getting down and losing hope, change your perception. As always remember that God will always be by your side, and He knows your limits, whatever you cannot handle, He will be there to help and guide you. Change the way you see your challenges, see them as lessons instead, as a stepping stone on the way to something greater. Ask God to open your mind and eyes so that when you are tried, you focus on persevering and coming out with a stronger character and more equipped to stay the course and stay on the path of Life. So tonight, as strange as it may sound, I ask you Lord to help us be joyful when we are faced with trials and that we may remember to persevere always and that you are always with us, helping us become complete. We thank You, Lord, and pray for wisdom and for our minds to be opened to the lessons you have for us that will ultimately bring us closer to You! Amen!
