Bible Talk: Biblical Commentary on Weekly Verses

Be like a Child

Be cold, be ruthless, be unforgiving... why do so many follow the path of heartlessness as it were a show of strength? With hate invading the hearts of so many, a path of trickery and lies have come to be encouraged, people hurt others to avoid being hurt, and in this system no one benefits. Instead, we should be like children. How you ask? Not like you can reverse in age, nor will putting on diapers and drinking from a bottle do you any good. But have you ever noticed that children have so many admirable qualities that we have seemed to lose over the years? Jesus himself said the Kingdom belongs to the children, and that we should be like them. Children are humble, always kind-hearted, wanting to help others without needing a sense of superiority. Humility is rare to come by these days, and it is certainly something we must work on because those who are humble and caring for others are a much better path than being ruthless and seemingly superior. Children are happy, yes we know they have their sad moments like everyone else, but they're sad for two minutes and the next moment they're laughing with all the joy in the world. We must learn to be like children and not let sadness take over our emotions and who we are, sad things occur, but we must rejoice in all the blessed aspects of our lives, we must laugh and love and let go of the hurt. Children are honest, sometimes they're painfully honest, we should also be honest, sincere, just in all we say and do, honest with others and communicative, not allow for lies to create obstacles and ruin relationships in our path. Children are curious and we should be want to dive into the depths of scriptures and seek to know more about God, we should talk to God and want to constantly learn more. Also, children have endurance, they fall and go through their own little challenges but get right back up again, they persist in the smallest of things and keep progressing. Finally, children are trusting, they believe in their parents, in those who guide them, they listen and love, and put their faith in those who care for them, and we should have the same faith in the Lord who takes care of us.

Children of God

No matter how old you are in this world, we are children of God. The Lord is our father and He has compassion for us, he cares for us, listens to us, provides for us. We should observe all those amazing characteristics children have and apply them to our lives and our relationship with God. We should be innocent and trusting, always searching to learn more of the Holy Scriptures, and have faith the Lord will care for us in all of our necessities. So many times, we get lost in all of the movement in our society, in all of the responsibilities of adulthood, and we fall under the pressures and fall into the competition amongst us. Instead, we should go back to our roots, we should look to the innocent and joyful and remind ourselves that there is someone who fends for us. Our heavenly Father cares for us and wants to have a meaningful relationship with us. I pray that God may help us to decipher how we must be like children and in what areas we must mature. I pray that God may help us recognize the many attributes children have and apply these to the way we live so that we can spread joy and love in our community. I pray that the Lord may help us to like children be innocent, faithful, and always have the endurance to persevere through our daily struggles and trust that the Lord will always be there to guide us and lend us strength. In Jesus' name, I pray, Amen!
